An independent studio in the Sussex countryside.

Katherine Bedson founded the studio in 2017 and has run it herself ever since. Based in the countryside and inspired by its charm, she specialises in period properties and country homes — houses with history and proportion, and usually a downstairs that was planned for a very different way of living.

Spatial planning is where every project begins. In her own words, it is about rethinking room flows and making subtle but impactful changes that completely transform how a home works. It is unglamorous, paper-and-pencil work, and it is the stage that decides whether the finished house feels effortless or merely decorated.

From there the studio takes the whole thing on: concept schemes and sampling, finishes and joinery, full technical drawings issued to and worked through with your contractor, furniture and lighting sourced and tracked, and soft furnishings made to measure and hung. As a mother, Katherine designs with family life in mind instinctively — schemes that allow for the way a house is actually used, not just the way it photographs.

The portfolio runs from a shooting lodge and Greensward Cottage to a Fitzrovia apartment, a villa in Croatia and a show-home dressing project — different in scale, consistent in approach.

Alongside the interiors sits KB Landscapes, headed up by Katherine's husband Greg Bedson with a small vetted team: garden design, landscaping and fencing, and garden maintenance, for domestic and commercial clients across Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. It is the reason this studio can design a room and the view out of it at the same time — and the reason the Google reviews, which are the landscaping side's clients, name Greg, Jack and Josh by name.
